Finally...

Just as my time was running out...

I have finally gotten a stable mentorship, where I can complete the required mentorship hours. I understand that it is very late in the game, but I feel like a can let go of the breath I have been holding. I will need to work a lot and frequently in order to catch up, but I know I will take this whole scenario as a learning experience. Thanks to a fellow senior, I was able to take advantage of this great opportunity to work with a female entrepreneur who works in creating, alternating, and selling dresses, along with providing event packages. I will get much needed insight into the world of micro entrepreneurship and how the business itself runs.

I have also been emailing professors in order to get a Young Scholars class for my independent component 2. What I have learned is that in order for me to take most of the International Business courses, I would need to complete certain prerequistites.I learned this from a professor that I had emailed earlier this month, but she was able to send me a list of classes that would complete the prerequisites and was still related to my topic. I have now jsut under 10 professors regarding a spot in their class. I now just need to focus on the 30 hours and gathering much more research to conclude my senior year with a stunning presentation.

Blog 11: Mentorship 10 Hours Check

"Nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced." -Albert Einstein

1. It still is not my stable mentorship, but I did not want to waste my time. I decided to contact my aunt who works with the L.A.P.D. and asked her if I could sit in on a few courts sessions she needed to attend. There are not many that are available for me to go to because they are private or on weekday mornings.

2.   Irma Velazquez
3.   15 hours, not including my summer hours. Including my summer hours, 26 hours 20 minutes.
4.   I went to court with my aunt. It is not directly tied with my topic, in some aspect it is important for me to learn the official process of the law once criminals, including psychopaths, are brought to justice.

Summer Mentorship Component

"Evil is unspectacular, and always human, and shares our bed and eats at our table." -W.H.Auden, a poet

Literal:

1. Summer Mentorship Log - Assisted during open houses, filed paperwork, made      appointments to show homes.

2. Eva: Real Estate (909) 753-8911

3. Is there a way to make certain that people will attend an open house? What is the main factor in gaining clients and encouragin referrals? How does one make every type of client happy even though some are more difficult than others?

Interpretive

4. At first, I believed that a topic related to real estate would be the easiest because I knew someone in the industry and had a quick way of earning hours. I discovered that although it was indeed an easy topic, I would not enjoy as much as i would have liked.

Applied

5. Very late in the game, I decided to change my topic.  I had a friend who was a psychology major encourage me to sit in her Intro psychology honors class and see if I liked the topic. I fell in love. I decided that would want my topic to be criminal psychology. The next challenge was to find a mentor. I notified my aunt in the LAPD and she was able to refer me to several psychologist working with the city, but almost all of them were extremely busy when i had called. I had emailed Mr. Purther regarding my change in topic thinking that I would be able to get a mentor, but I have not been able to. My aunt was able to arrange for me to meet professionals in the field, but not until the week after school starts. I believe I can get a mentor within the next two weeks and understand this is not what was asked. But I am very committed to pursing my topic of Criminal Psychology.
